Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia's inventive digital micro theatre retells classic stories re-imagined and modernized for today.
A selection of works from Lasso the Wind Aurélia's verses and other poems.
Lasso the Wind is the first collection of children’s poetry by renowned poet and playwright George Elliott Clarke. By turns absurd, witty, playful, and profound, Clarke’s poems speak to the vivid wonder, the bright joys, and the secret pains of growing up in this world.
Keonté & Antonio Beals released their self-published children's book "I Am Perfectly Me" which highlights BIPOC kids in hopes to empower them and let them know their differences are what makes them unique and beautiful. Representation is so important, especially in today's world. Follow each character in this book as they show you how perfect they are by being themselves. "We want this book to inspire kids of all races, sizes, genders, and backgrounds to know that they are beautiful and that all of the weird things about them are what make them who they are. Embrace who you are! Self-love is the most important thing in life and should be instilled in children at birth."
Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia brings beloved children's stories to life with the magic of Story Box Theatre, the company’s newest digital initiative. In Billy Goats Gruff, three hungry goats set off on an adventurous quest across a bridge, hoping to feast on the lush grass beyond, while outsmarting a sneaky troll lurking beneath. Rumpel reimagines the classic tale of Rumpelstiltskin and his tricky deals with a miller's daughter, while The Sky is Falling delivers a humorous twist on the well-known escapades of Chicken Little. I Am Perfectly Me, by African-Nova Scotian author Keonte Beals, celebrates the beauty of self-acceptance. And with Lasso the Wind by George Elliott Clarke and Auntie Apple and Auntie Plum by Jim Morrow, Story Box Theatre continues to add rich, diverse stories to its collection.
Each story, ranging from 10 to 20 minutes, offers an escape into a world of imagination. With six captivating tales to explore, Story Box Theatre invites audiences on an immersive journey into the heart of storytelling.
